mmm...comfort food

This past winter, I shot a MASSIVE cookbook, focusing on comfort foods. I am going to share a few images from that project here and there over the coming months, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, please enjoy some meatball soup and soft pretzels. :)

a little retouching

"How much post-production do you usually do?"
I hear this question a lot and this is my answer:

I generally do some adjustments with brightness, contrast and, possibly, color temperature, (if I want to make an image warmer or cooler in tone.) In certain situations, I may also need to change some subtle parts in the image, (getting rid of distracting flaws in the photo, extending a surface or background that wasn't large enough, etc.)

See for yourself.

kate mcdermott, pie lady extraordinaire

Several months back, I was hired to shoot a story for Where Women Cook. I am a fan of the magazine and it's sister publication, Where Women Create, so I was pretty pumped to be shooting for them.
The icing on the cake (or pie, in this case) was that the subject of the article was my friend, Kate McDermott. You may know her as the author of the fabulous cookbook, The Art of the Pie or as the teacher of the awesome and always-sold-out Art of the Pie workshops.

Kate is lovely- inside and out- and her workshops are wonderful. Here's a little peek into her adorable pie cottage in Port Angeles, WA.
