new client, new intern

I am happy to announce that I have my very first intern! Lorna Yee, food writer, blogger, and co-author of The Newlywed Kitchen: Delicious Meals for Couples Cooking Together, due to come out next spring, is hanging out with me during some shoots and learning more about food photography.

Today was my first day with Lorna and, I have to admit, I was pretty nervous. Thoughts like, "What the hell can I possibly teach her?" and "I am going to sound like a bumbling idiot trying to explain my process" and, my favorite, " She's gonna realize I have no idea what I am doing half the time and then the world will know I am a complete and utter fraud" kept running through my mind.

Good times.

But the day was super smooth and, actually, a lot of fun. Lorna is great and, honestly, I could not ask for a better intern.

I spent the day shooting ingredients for my new client, Flaming Pear Catering, (website coming soon.)
The owner, Aileen, wanted the photos to feel rustic and fresh, and I had such a blast trying to create that mood.

Below is what I have so far.

What do you think?

My gosh, Clare. These photos are stunning. I was on your blog a few days ago, and today when I was in Whole Foods, I felt I HAD TO have some red pears and some lemons. It took me a minute to remember why I thought those two things would be so fabulous. (No cherries available now in Florida.)

I LOVE your work.

Wow.

There aren't really words to tell you how much I love these. I can not wait for the cookbooks to come out so I can open up to this kind of magic any old time.
