Autumn on the farm

I decided to take a little break from the endless hours of wedding and portrait post-production work, to give an update about my work with Kurtwood Farms. (To read about that project, go here.)

After a number of shoots at Kurtwood this past summer, yesterday I had the privilege of photographing the farm during this GORGEOUS fall season. It was fantastic.
Fall is my all-time favorite time of year, but it was made even more special by spending some time out on the farm. It really is a magical place, and I find that I miss it when I am gone for too long.

Over the past few months, I have documented cow-milking, cider pressing, lots of cooking, one of the famous Sunday dinners, vegetable harvesting, berry picking, animal tending, and a cow slaughter, (which, as a carnivore, was a powerful experience to behold. However, I think that if you eat meat, you should recognize that you ARE eating an animal, and be responsible about supporting farms who raise their animals in healthy, clean, wide open spaces, and who slaughter them responsibly and with dignity. But I will get off my high horse now.)

Anyway, there will be many more Kurtwood postings on this blog, but I definitely wanted to share this set of photos with you.

Long live FALL!!!

I too love the fall with its brilliance - and nostalgia because of its transience.
There is so much joy and happiness in the wedding shots. What a lovely profession you have - spreading beauty and joy in the world.

Ahhh! It looks so idyllic! I must remember how much work goes into maintaining life and a living on a farm. It surely sounds like everyone involved enjoys what they are doing, including you, Clare. The photos are gorgeous, and they give me a taste of the beauty of Kurtwood. I'd like to live there too. I am so glad you have this experience of being nurtured and restored in Nature.

After seeing the pictures I had to read the past blog post and am incredibly delighted and hugely envious of such an incredibly wonderful opportunity. You are capturing the farm in all its simplistic beauty marvelously. Each photo truly art, a story unfolding in the pictures alone.
